Zakk Wylde Workshop

Zakk Wylde is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Playing with legends like Ozzy Osbourne he has greatly improved his playing over the years. Initially he made a solo album by the name of Book of Shadows and later on he progressed with his own band called the Black Label Society.

Zakk formed a band called Lynyrd Skynhead with James Lomenzo and Greg DeAngelo of White Lion fame in 1992 while he was still with Ozzy. They jammed a bunch of classic rock and southern rock tunes from bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Bros, ZZ Top, and Mountain. This lineup recorded the track "Farm Fiddlin'" which appeared on the "Guitars That Rule The World Vol. 1" compilation album, which is now out of print.

Black Label Society are currently on the mainstage of Ozzfest 2002, with Robert Trujillo, also Ozzy's bassist, playing bass for them. You can also catch Zakk playing with Ozzy's band as well.

Run To The Hills

The eighties to the early nineties saw Iron Maiden ruling the roost, certainly in terms of the British, and arguably the world, rock scene. They were massive. Even nowadays, when this feat is a normal weekly event, it is rarely achieved by a rock band. Back then – when a number one hit couldn't be guaranteed by selling a suitcase full of singles – it was simply unknown. Given the repute of the band and my appetite for collecting, why then the marked gap where this band's portfolio should be?

There are, I think, a number of contributing factors. Firstly, their thrust into super-stardom came at the same time my personal finances were stretched to the limit. Secondly, my musical tastes were diversifying into more interesting fields. And, thirdly, and most importantly, rock music in general was rapidly losing its appeal.

With the advent of grunge and emo-core the more traditional rock fare became, in some cases, an object of ridicule but when they started remastering and reissuing Maiden's back catalogue I had a mighty big rethink.

With its absurdly pompous intro section, whacky-whacky video and metal-opera vocals, Run to the Hills is a proposition over which we should cast an extremely jaundiced eye. Once that's been accomplished, we can bung it on the record player and howl along to the chorus like we're crazy.

MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine Demonstrates Signature MARSHALL Cabinet

In 1962, a new amplifier became available to guitarists, bringing with it a whole new approach to how the guitar was played. 21 years later, in 1983 a new band emerged on the San Francisco bay area, bringing with them a unique, new sound for a generation. The music had a distinctive guitar style, often involving complex, intricate musical passages. The lyrics were profound and gave a sharp, cynical view of modern society. The band MEGADETH, the visionary Dave Mustaine.

The Dave Mustaine signature range consists of two cabinets, the 1960A-DM, which carries the classic angled look, and the 1960B-DM, the base, straight front cabinet.

Hand-built in Marshall's U.K. factory, the company's development engineers have worked closely with Dave over the last year, and have devised Marshall's most visually and sonically striking product to date. This "sealed" construction gives tightly focused, aggressive projection to the sound and is exactly to Dave's specification.

The cabinet has a more open face look, with a diamond pattern, black powder coated steel kick grille to protect the speakers. Covered in rugged "Carbon Fibre" patterned, slate black vinyl, the cabs are finished with high impact-resistant cabinet fixtures and durable Manganese-Phosphate plated screws and rivets.

The final touch is a custom plaque in the corner of the cab, carrying the signatures of both Dave Mustaine and Dr. Jim Marshall OBE.

Included with each 1960DM cabinet is a DVD presented by Dave and featuring the building of the cabinet. There is also a heavy duty dust cover with a custom artwork and a product completion certificate hand-signed by the Marshall production staff.

NIGHTWISH Singer To Perform With THE RASMUS On Finnish TV

NIGHTWISH frontwoman Anette Olzon will join the Finnish rock band THE RASMUS this week on the Finnish TV show "Ne Salmiset" to perform THE RASMUS' new single, "October & April". The performance will be broadcast on Finland's MTV3 on Saturday, November 28.

Olzon teamed up with THE RASMUS on stage this past Friday night (November 20) at The Dome 52 in Graz, Austria to perform "October & April". The concert will be broadcast on Germany's RTL 2 station on November 27.

In a September 2008 interview with Italy's Musica Metal, THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen stated that the idea for the song came to him nine years ago when Tarja Turunen was still the lead singer of NIGHTWISH, but he only got around to recording the track during the sessions for last year's "Black Roses" CD. "I actually asked Tarja, but she said no!" Lauri revealed. "Then I called Anette, and she was like, 'Yeah, I would love to sing a song with you, I'm a big RASMUS fan, actually two years ago before I joined NIGHTWISH, I was singing THE RASMUS songs in karaoke bars!' so we went with her."

"October & April" was not included on "Black Roses" because the CD was a concept effort and the song didn't fit in with the overall idea for the album. Instead, the track will make its debut on THE RASMUS' "Best of 2001-2009", a compilation of all the hit songs from their four latest albums, including the million-selling "In The Shadows", most of the singles and a few rarities.

AEROSMITH's JOE PERRY Interviewed - Nov. 23, 2009

AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler joined Perry onstage in New York earlier this month while the latter was touring with his JOE PERRY PROJECT solo band, telling the crowd that he wasn't quitting AEROSMITH. "[Tyler] walked into the club right at the encore because he didn't really know what songs we had played up 'till them," Perry told Gazer. "But we had 'Walk This Way' left [to play] and I thought I would give the fans a treat and have him come and sit in with my band. He came in, he sang and he left. I looked around afterwards, because we played one more song, and I went back looking for him and he was gone. They said he just walked off the stage and left."
